2022 NC OBX Waterfowl

This was one of the best experiences I have had. The greatest moments of the 2022 WWIA duck hunt were due to the community support here. There was not a moment I was in need and that was because of all the support. Thank you.

This was my first experience with WWIA. I cannot thank the organization enough for putting on this event. The guides and hosts were all very professional and exceptionally accommodating. I will tell all other wounded warriors I know about how great this organization is and what they do for folks like us. Thank you again.

Another successful WWIA OBX event. This year was extremely enjoyable! All the Heroes were top-notch Americans. The event went on without a hiccup and that was due to the WWIA Guides, Tim Spence, Brook Sparks and the Cavanaugh family. The fellowship and memories made were the agenda of the day, mission accomplished. Semper Fi and thank you for what you continue to do. God Bless Everyone!

“Food sets the stage for any initial acceptance and deeper understanding of our people’s cultures and differences; we all need to be at that dinner table”. Cooking and being a part of the WWIA for the last 8 years has been an honor. I love food and the doors it has opened for me and the introductions it has made possible. These Heroes have become my family, and the relationships I have forged are treasures.

Chef Wes Stepp, volunteer

I have been a guide on this event for several years. I am so honored to provide the Heroes with a hunting experience. I am always pleased to see that no matter how the hunting goes, everyone has a chance in the duck blind to connect and share.

2022 SW Ohio Duck and Deer

WWIA introduced me to new adventures, new brothers and new friends, for this I am forever grateful. These last few days have been such a great stress relief. In the dark times to come, I have new contacts to reach out to that will truly understand where I am. Although we shot 2 ghost deer, we all had a great time doing so. Duck hunting will for sure be a new passion. The hunt is more than a hunt. It is not solo time; it is to be spent with friends who share the passion. The sense of belonging has been incredible. The Hosts, the food, the memories will remain very dear to me. Thank you, gentleman, so very much for caring for others. That bond will remain strong and be relit from time to time when we meet again.

Thank you very much for this experience, it was great to be able to be around and talk to other veterans like myself. Jake was an outstanding Guide and made the trip fun at all times. The Hosts were very helpful and made the trip smooth. It was a great experience that I will never forget.

2022 AL Long Leaf Whitetail and Quail Hunt

The 5th Annual Long Leaf hunt was awesome from start to finish. Not one second was mundane. As soon as I arrived, I was confirming my zero and discussing plans for the next mornings hunt. However, the afternoon quail hunt was the absolute main event on Day 1. The afternoon quail hunt was spent with amazing people, fellow hunters, veterans, guides and hunting dogs. All of the hunts were spectacular, and I was put up in stands that allowed me to hunt in my own style. During each hunt I was afforded opportunities to harvest game, which is highly unusual, unbelievable and memorable. Evenings were spent enjoying feasts prepared by Chef Bobby and stories of the days hunt, past and present. A special thanks to the McMillan family, Andy, Archie and Thomas for Hosting us and making us feel welcome. To our hunting partners, Jason, James, MG (R) Gayler, and CW5 Roland keep getting after the combat focused PT and waidmannshei! I hope we hunt together again.

A. Leatherbury, US Army

From the moment I arrived I was welcomed with open arms and encouraged to relax and enjoy myself. I could feel the stress leave and as I got to know Andy, Bill, Joe and Buddy I felt at home the entire time. I was hopeful that I would mesh with my fellow Purple Heart buddies, and I really enjoyed getting to know Andrew and James as the weekend progressed and the light kidding and banter started with each other. I spent a lot of time with each person there and know that I have found lifelong friends that I can count on. I also spent a lot of time with Mr. Buddy, who taught me a lot of about living on the river and swamp. It was a pleasure getting to know everyone and forming friendships that I hope to revisit soon. I can’t say thank you enough to Andy and his family and friends for hosting us and taking us in for the long weekend. I also want to thank WWIA staff for setting up such a great opportunity to relax and get to know other fellow Purple Heart awardees and hear their stories.

This was so much fun, to be able to work with my hands again and make things has been special. Everyone was very helpful. I haven’t done anything like this in 40 years. I would like to thank everyone that set this event up and Tony for everything.

This was a great thing for me, it helped me relax and to feel like a brand-new person. I also felt very welcomed by all the instructors that helped me while I was turning my work. I can’t wait to do this again. It is a great thing that Tony has going on here and I think more veterans should do this. Thank you for everything and keep up all the good work.

2022 Great Creek Turkey

When you have PTSD, it is like having a giant albatross hanging around your neck. The weight you carry becomes a burden not only to you but all the people around you. Think of it like a bottle that starts the day off already half full. It leaves little room to cope with anything by the end of the day. Your family is left with whatever has not already been filled up. Guilt, shame, regret, anger, sadness, and moral injury are just some of the big emotions that fill that bottle and are difficult to unpack every day. PTSD isn’t something that can be seen. It is very real and very destructive, just like someone with high blood pressure can live their life untreated, PTSD can be a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Unlike a lot of physical wounds, mental health wounds can significantly affect the lives of those around you. Even if you go to a doctor and get treated, the anger, hurt and resentment from damaged relationships often doesn’t get addressed or acknowledged. It was important to me to find some time away from all the stress and noise and pain of everyday life. Time to empty the bottle, to reset. Not everyone can buy a bunch of gear, jump on a plane, drop their life and have somewhere to think, relax and feel. That is where WWIA comes in. By providing this opportunity to relax, reset and to not have to wake up already in a deficit has been invaluable. The woods, the water, the lack of distractions has allowed me to hit the reset button. Time to think and heal. The men up here are amazing. If you need to be left alone, they let you be. You don’t have to explain anything, just clear your head. The guide’s knowledge was second to none. Their kindness and eagerness for you to do well on your hunt is amazing. I enjoyed everything. The accommodations, the people, the rush of taking home a bird and the relaxation of fishing. It can’t be described. I will always remember this experience and can’t describe how much I needed this when I didn’t even know what I needed. Thank you all for everything.

I absolutely loved this event. The guides and hunt club members are truly one of a kind. They made me feel like a member of their family and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to hunt with. This has jump started my thirst and passion for turkey hunting. Great event.

P. Abel, US Army

This has been an absolute joy. I’ve been able to experience a moment where I could interact with others who have shared similar experiences. It has been a place of refuge at a time when I needed it the most. Each guide was very knowledgeable and experienced. They were able to bring the knowledge to us through their expertise. I feel each civilian could possibly learn or have a quick brief on what to ask and not to ask wounded vets. Other than that, what a joy.

2022 Galveston Couples Fishing and Culinary

My husband Thomas and I had a wonderful opportunity to do a couple’s event with WWIA in Galveston, TX at the home of Brad and Julie. For me, it was the first chance I had to experience a trip with Thomas since his injuries. For me, it was incredible to see him open up to fellow brothers in arms and talk about what happened. To listen to each families experience of deployment and the after effects of war that both service members and spouses endure touched my heart. Brad and Julie are both exceptional Hosts that truly have servants hearts. They went out of their way to ensure that each person was taken care of or didn’t need anything. They are passionate about giving back to military service embers and their families. Jake is passionate, funny and self-giving of his time. He made everyone feel just as welcome as Brad and Julie did. I highly recommend any trip that involves WWIA , Jake, Brad and Julie. It was well worth the time and a great experience. There are memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone that was involved in making this event happen.

A. Flook, Spouse

I want to extend my thanks to WWIA for sponsoring and inviting Angela and I to attend this couple’s retreat. I truly appreciate the recognition of the sacrifices of our military, but I am thrilled to finally get the thanks to all the spouses that keep up the home front in our absence and support us during and after our return. They are truly the first and closest to the healing of us. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you to Brad and Julie for opening up their home and giving their time to host all of us. They went over and above to ensure we could relax and enjoy ourselves. We thank them and the others within their local community for taking great care of us and doing their best to ensure we had fun and enjoyed ourselves. Again, thank you for recognizing the spouses!

2022 Kansas Cast & Blast

Where to begin, this was the greatest trip I have been on! Everyone here went above and beyond on everything. It was a great experience. I was able to relax when I wanted to and just recharge. Our Host, Carl was an awesome guide to me. We had a great time telling stories and just shooting the bull. Matt was great. I felt very comfortable from the start of the trip up until the end. Thank you all so much.

S. Rice, US Army

This hunt has by far been one of the most relaxing, enjoyable trips I have been on! This hunt was exactly what I needed to help me reset, recharge, and reconnect with like minded people and gave me the opportunity to meet some of my amazing brothers in arms. The Hosts, Carl, Ted, Herman, Matt, and everyone that helped bring all of this together are some of the most amazing people I have had the pleasure of meeting. Everyone made me feel right at home, comfortable. This group of patriots have put together one amazing event. It was low key, very personal, and all about hunting and I could never thank them enough. I didn’t realize how much I needed some time to myself and the camaraderie of other service members as well as just enjoying the simplicity of hunting and fishing. I can’t even express how generous and kind everyone that I encountered was to all of us. Everyone went above and beyond to help get us our turkeys and fish. I feel like I have made some lifelong friends. So, a huge thank you to the WWIA for this once in a lifetime experience.

What an amazing event! This past week I have literally had the time of my life turkey hunting with some amazing people. I have been turkey hunting for about 35 years, and I can easily say this was in my top 5 turkey hunts ever. First, Matt Brannon is the absolute perfect WWIA representative. He made contact with us all and answered all of our critical questions before the trip even started. That was a huge factor to the success of this trip. Everything was amazing! The Hosts, Carl, Herman , and Ted were outstanding, very courteous, super generous and worked their butts off to make this trip memorable. Matt continued to facilitate the hunt and filled his position perfectly. I know the work that goes into a hunt like this, and everything ran flawlessly. I felt very comfortable the entire time I was here. Our hosts were very resourceful and pretty much let us pick what we wanted to do. We all shared fellowship that was super special in the outdoors and I witnessed a lot of healing, laughter, and newfound friendships while being here. I definitely made memories and buddies that will last a lifetime! Thank you!

I had one of the best experiences of my life this weekend. Kaleb, Christopher, and Frenchy made this trip worth it. I didn’t bag a turkey, but I made some lifelong friends!

What a great event. The people, the food, the camaraderie was so amazing. Last year 2021, weas very hard for me. I lost everything after my identity was stolen and I’ve been rebuilding my life. I also guide hunts for veterans. This event allowed me to meet new lifelong friends and to relax in a fun, safe environment where I could enjoy the outdoors. Truly, thank you so much. The Wisconsin group of people are absolutely the best people you will ever have the privilege of knowing and I feel blessed to be able to call them friends. Woodturning is the best hobby in the world, seriously! Thank you for helping me and making my experience the absolute best it could be. I truly love this group of people.

I was looking forward to this since asked. It was a weekend of firsts. I have hunted turkey for 5 years and never got a bird in close. I was able harvest my first jake. I was able to catch my first walleye ever, and it was the first time I turned wood. An extra thank you to all the people who made this happen. Todd and Dawn are awesome Hosts. Thanks again for this opportunity.

Another awesome event put on by WWIA and the Bohm family. Warriors went 3 for 4 on birds. Some Warriors caught their first walleyes and their first-time turning wood. Despite the weather being cold and rainy, the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. The community support for the event was extraordinary which resonated with the Warriors and myself. This event forms new friendships, opened Warriors up to awesome outdoor opportunities and provided a lot of smiles and laughter. Heck, we even took in a gun and outdoor show. Once again, I can’t thank the Bohm family and WWIA enough for another incredible Wisconsin experience.

2022 Western Pennsylvania Turkey Hunt

I would like to thank WWIA for sponsoring the fishing and turkey hunt in Pennsylvania. I would like to extend my appreciation for the hospitality of Dan Bevevino, Frank Condino and their family and friends that welcomed us with open arms. Besides the experience, I want to thank Dan’s whole family who helped us and appreciated us and treated us like family. I am very appreciative. The event experience was very fun, and I found an extended family outside of the military that appreciates us. The event itself was a blast, meeting my fellow wounded veterans that I can connect with and relate with makes everything easier. The fishing was a blast because I learned a lot and it gave me a new experience in life that I will continue doing. I feel relief and a lack of stress. Hunting is something you can relate to your military experience. All the adrenaline, excitement and awareness of everything around you makes it easy to forget my stressful situation. Overall, this was an exciting and fun experience. Once again, thank you WWIA and Dan Bevevino for sponsoring this event for us.

Camp experience was incredible. We have seen so many turkeys. I didn’t get a chance to shoot, but that is not what matters. A chance to spend time with other Warriors is amazing. Pennsylvania is a great, beautiful state and I am blessed to have been able to experience it.

I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to hunt with WWIA on Dan Bevevino’ s property. It was incredible on every level. Game was abundant and the people involved are all so welcoming. 2022 NY/PA Trout on a Fly and Bass Fishing

Wow, what an incredible weekend. That was one of the best experiences in my life. The location, the Hosts, volunteers, the Warriors, the weather, the fish, it was everything. Thank you again for the opportunity to go on this trip, lots of memories and stories for the future. I hope to partake again in the future and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help the foundation.

P.S. caught about 2 dozen fish (that’s more in one weekend than my previous 34 years combined)

S. Mackay, US Army

The best weekend in a long time. I couldn’t imagine a better weekend. Our Hosts, Rocky and Karen and Guide, Derek made this weekend a weekend to remember. It was awesome to hang out with fellow Purple Heart recipients and just chat, talk and bro out. They understand you. I learned so much in this weekend about fishing that I found a hobby that I would like to learn and expand on. Honestly, I feel like I am just mumbling because this weekend, this experience, our Hosts, I can’t ever put it into words. I truly appreciate everyone’s efforts who made this weekend happen. I appreciate WWIA for allowing me to participate and I hope I can do more for the organization in the future. Thanks again!

S. Mackay, US Army

First off, thank you and your organization for blessing me with the opportunity again to be surrounded by Purple Heart recipients as myself. The Host, Rocky Criss was amazing, and his friend and volunteer, John was awesome. The Guide Derek VanBuren was very professional and accommodating from speaking on the phone prior to the trip and first meeting on Friday afternoon. I really let everyday stressors of life go away this weekend. The fly fishing was relaxing, and the bass fishing was awesome. To sit around and reflect and bond with fellow veterans is priceless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this first-class trip and outdoor experience.

For me, life has been defined by moments, fractions of time with no finite limits. From the moment that I was injured, those pieces of time have been dark. I have been resistant to take part in things like this trip. I cannot say if the resistance was fed by the thoughts of the past or the fear of the future. What I can state for sure is that I’ve had several life altering moments here on this trip. The WWIA and the volunteers that I’ve encountered on this trip have given me hope and a renewed sense of purpose. The fishing (which I must say was amazing) was such a minor part of the moments here. The sport was the catalyst, a common denominator and functional property of change. I’m forever grateful for these moments.

2022 MO-KAN Catfishing

I don’t remember a trip like the catfishing trip I was invited to attend. All the Host were fantastic. I have real issues with balance. The Guides and Host did everything possible to get me in and out of the boats without incident. I was very lucky to catch two nice size catfish, one night’s catch was 37 ponds. This adventure was a special trip for me , made me feel very special. I’m so proud to have served my country. This total crew was icing on the cake for me. I will never forget this event and how it made me feel. Fish fry, lodging, fishing, and listening to everyone talk about hunting and fishing adventures.

2022 Alaska Halibut Fishing

What an amazing trip! From the hospitality of our Host, John to everyone at WWIA who made this trip possible. The goal of bringing like-minded people together was all that was needed. The fact that we also got to bring home many pounds of fish was the icing on the cake. Words are hard to come by to describe the experience. A thank you is not enough but thank you!

B. Coe, US Army

A lot of emotions, I can’t explain the gratitude of this life experience. Being around these Warriors renewed me and my outlook on life and energized me for the future. This drives me to get more involved with WWIA. Thanks for the experience. A huge thanks to the folks behind the scenes and all the folks that raised and donated money. I truly don’t have the words.

C. West, US Army

A once in a lifetime experience. First and foremost, I want to thank everyone that made this possible. I’d like to give a special thanks to Jason Gaudette and John Moline. Jason is the perfect person to guide this type of trip. Jason is a highly skilled and knowledgeable outdoorsman. He obviously has a wide array of experiences as an outdoorsman, and he sets a good example of how to conduct yourself when interacting in the outdoors. John Moline is the perfect Captain for a group of Wounded Vets, it is like he is one of us. He was an awesome Host and an all-around good dude. I can’t say enough about those two guys. I’m not much for talking about my combat experiences and being wounded. The other Warriors on the trip shared their stories and at times tears welled in our eyes. Hearing them talk about what they have experienced was inspiring. I wish I could write more about my feelings and experiences and the way their fellowship has affected me, but I have not had time to reflect on it all.

J. Clemons, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

What can I say that will fully convey the experience? This wasn’t just a fishing trip in a beautiful location. The people and places I have experienced have passed through my exterior to reach my heart and soul. I didn’t even realize it until our last day on the water. We were on our way back to port and I called my family to tell them about the day we had. While I was trying to describe everything, it hit me. I got choked up and could hardly get the words out. To WWIA, thank you so much for providing this adventure. This one will be etched in my memory forever. My only wish is that it could happen more often. I can’t tell you how much it means to be around other wounded warriors; we seem to understand each other in a way that I have never had with others.

2022 British Columbia Black Bear

As a friend of Doug and Julie McMann’s I have heard about WWIA for as long as I’ve known them and having spent a great deal of time in their home, I have admired the pictures of past hunts many times. So, it meant a great desal to be invited by Doug to participate in this year’s hunt with Matt Brannon. What an outstanding experience hunting bear with him. I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 days of getting to know both him and the WWIA program, learning new words, expressions and apps! Sharing out back stories, challenges and fears. Spending time with people like Matt are what all great hunts are made of. Sadly, I need to leave before this hunt is over, with two days left to go. What will happen next in this grand adventure, as Matt pursues THE ONE? Thank you, Doug, Matt and WWIA for allowing me to be a part of delivering such an outstanding program!

B. Gibson, Volunteer
Guide Outfitters Association of BC

This experience has been hands down a once in a lifetime experience for me. British Columbia is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, it is wild and free. This week here with Doug and Julie was amazing. Doug and Julie were so gracious and hospitable. The food was amazing, and I never knew you could can meat and make it taste so amazing until this week. One of the coolest things we did was pack our lunch each day and build a fire and cook our lunch out in the field all while experiencing the amazing views the mountains had to offer us. This whole week was wild from start to finish. We were within feet from over 5-6 different bear. We had an encounter within 10 yards of a giant grizzly bear that was hair raising to say the least. We put in a lot of miles, and we were tired, but the last day, we got it done. I will never forget this week and the memories we made together. It was PERFECT!!!! Doug and Julie are truly great people, and I am thankful for having met them and will forever be grateful for their friendship.

Another fantastic event filled with amazing people with one thing in mind – making us Purple Heart veterans feel like Heroes and doing things over and beyond. Great weather, great fishing and all involved were tremendous volunteers, staff and local sponsors. The guides were top shelf as always.

This event was amazing, I had a really good time. I am psyched to be able to do stuff like this, because all I would be doing right now is sitting in the house or working. It is nice to see all of the things people still do for us. The staff/personnel that did the fishing this weekend went beyond what they needed to. They always made sure everyone was taken care of and what needed to be done was done without hesitation. Seeing other veterans come out and interact with each other is nice because you don’t see it much anymore. Just being here right now writing in this book is hard because words can’t describe how thankful I am for this. Thank you.

I served in Operation Desert Storm, OIF and OEF. I had two days of good fishing; everyone was very nice and helpful. I caught the limit both days I was here. 2007 was my alive year. Over the past 15 years I have tried to forget the reason I was awarded the Purple Heart. In the past two days I was right back there. I was able to see Tim Spence after many years, wondering if he was okay. I had a large hole in my story because I wanted to make sure he knew how much I respected him for his leadership. The day he arrived at Womack (Army Medical Center), I saw a man that was not the same man. I wanted to help him, but I could not because I Had my own battles. This weekend brought me peace. He is not the same, but he won his battle, and I am thankful that WWIA has him and you are lucky to have him. I loved the fishing, food, friendship, and all the folks that were a part of the weekend. For me, it was more than the fishing and I will never forget it. I am so thankful I cannot put it into words. Do not change a thing. The boat captains were great. All that came out and gave up their weekend are the real Heroes. Thank you for the chance to share my thoughts.

First off, thank you for putting this event on. This was my first outing with WWIA. It took me a while to attend an event after I signed up. This was due to my own scheduling conflicts and Corrina checked in with me every couple of months until I could commit to an event. I appreciate her for doing that. This event was incredible. Team Erie volunteers and Captains really understand veterans. I thought it was pretty cool how they knew without meeting me that I would be as independent as possible before asking for help. That alone made me comfortable enough to ask for help when I needed it. They even knew I would need a shower chair without ever asking. This group is very experienced with helping disabled vets and you immediately feel comfortable around them. They also set up the event in a way that you don’t have awkward down time. The schedule is well planned, and I never felt anxiety about how the day would go. I had an amazing time out fishing and meeting new people. I am generally a socially quiet guy. I was more open this weekend around strangers than usual. What a great time. Thank you.

This event was the first time I associated with other vets in over 50 years. I cannot believe how emotional this was for me and how the community supports this event. Many thanks to all of the WWIA, staff, captains, crew and all the many volunteers that make this possible. I will never forget my opportunity to participate and heal as a result of this get together. Much thanks to all and God bless.

I thought the trip was amazing! Having campers for us to stay next to the water was great and a larger group gave us more diversity. I wouldn’t change anything except for possibly flying people in the day prior to the veteran’s parade. My group had flight delays and we missed it. Other than that, the trip was awesome and for my first one, I can’t wait to come back. Thanks to everyone who was involved.

This event was amazing. From the tremendous Warriors to the community support and unbelievable fishing. Team Erie crushed it. Every year when you think they can’t make it any better, they raise the bar. To be a part of this event and watch the friendships and bonds form across generations of Warriors is astonishing. Transcending time, conflicts, battlefields, and enemies, all of us seem to come together in a unity forged by service and the outdoors. Absolutely blessed to watch and be a part of it. This is a phenomenal event put together by a patriotic community, generous volunteers, and an essential foundation for providing the Warriors an opportunity to breathe and relax. My sincere thanks and respect.

2022 Saltgrass Lodge Red Fishing

I had a great time with all the Wounded Warriors and the boat captains. It wasn’t about catching it was the bonds formed between one another. Thanks to everyone who was involved.

Thank you. I am not a social guy, so events like this are usually difficult for me. This was top-notch, no worries from the jump. Fishing was great, guides were fantastic and the WWIA staff were more than I could have asked for. Please, invite me again, this was amazing!

J. Voss, US Army

I wish that I would have found out about this awesome program earlier. The camaraderie, care, and love that the WWIA team provided was second to none. Every need was taken care of, I didn’t have to ask for anything. The communication was very good for us Warriors. I wish more people would donate to this program. It helped me out immensely being able to discuss what happened to me with others who have been through the same hell I went through. It is a must that we get together like this for healing, so that we know we are not alone. This trip helped me in ways I cannot explain. Thank you for including me in this, I am going home a better person because of this weekend. Thank you.

2022 Heroes Northland Experience Bear Hunt

I want to tell you how thankful I am that you let me be a part of this great organization and how thankful I am that I got to meet Jason and Nancy and all the Jim’s and Dan’s, they were all great. Hostess, Nancy was a wonderful cook, I am sure I gained 10 pounds. This was a great trip, relaxing, fun and I got a bear. I haven’t slept that good in years. This exceeded my expectations by 100%, the people and the food were great, and I got to kill a bear which was a bucket list thing for me. I harvested a 191-pound black bear. These are great people. I really needed this. I am forever in debt to you, if you need something from me, let me know. Thank you again

G. Golden, USMC

These two men were so cool and it was great that they both harvested bears. Words cannot express how much this means to me.

D. Bourassa, Event Host

This is our third year hosting a bear hunt. We love supporting WWIA and getting to know these guys that come into our home, hearing their stories. I am humbled by their sacrifices to this country and so happy to be able to help them find some joy and relaxation in Northwest Wisconsin.

N. Bourassa, Event Host

This was a great hunt for both the Warriors and me. I am proud to have been a part of it. I really enjoyed the time we spent together. I feel as though I have made two new friends.

2022 Camp Hackett Bear Hunt

The Camp Hackett Bear Hunt was incredible! Two hours after getting off the plane, I was in the stand hunting. After only one hour, bear down! The Host, Event Leader, WWIA Guide and the tons of other supporters were outstanding. This was the trip of a lifetime. The wonderful locals of Phillips, WI were some of the nicest people I have ever met. I was very lucky and grateful for having this hunt. Truly a lifetime experience. Thanks to all of you at WWIA for making this happen.

J. Zaremba, US Army

I have lived a very exciting life for the past several years but to say I had the luck to experience a hunt like this, there are no words to express how it feels. Not to mention the people I have met during this experience. I want to thank the organization for the opportunity. I am extremely humbled for being picked to be part of this experience; it was once in a lifetime. I would never have thought it would be possible to do this hunt with a great staff and Guide. Derek and Arthur have been great. If I was picked to do another hunt, I would not hesitate to do so. Thank you for everything. Thank you for teaching this Marine new trick.

2022 Pennsylvania Cast & Blast

I have been blessed enough to be invited to attend this PA Cast & Blast event for the second time. Five days with the members of the lodge for the second time. With their hospitality and wonderfully kind hearts, definitely makes them feel like extended family that happen to Live in PA. There is no doubt that this trip just like WWIA is a true form of therapy. Therapy that guys like myself need…and continues to need, not to mention looks forward to attending. Mr. Sandy is so much appreciated for the effort, time, and heart he puts into making this WWIA event happen. Matt and the guides effort and care they put into getting us Wounded Veterans moving and coordinated during the five days we stay at the lodge is incredible. Sandy, Matt, and Mr. Bill really make a “hunting and fishing trip” a much needed and wonderful therapy and adventure. Thank you to Corrina for her efforts in allowing me to attend this event for a 2nd time. Hopefully, I can be blessed enough to get another chance to attend the PA Cast & Blast again. Thank you to all the lodge members (family) for their enormous efforts.

This event has truly brought me to a better place. I have struggled over the past few years and rarely have the opportunity to let down my guard and speak freely with others. This event has allowed me to spend time with quality men and the hunting and fishing was a huge stress reliever. WWIA has put together a life changing event for me and I am sure others. I am honored to have been selected to experience such a great event with such good people. This has truly recharged my batteries and will always be great memories for me to revisit when I need to reflect on good thoughts! Thank you so much!

More food, beverages, and camaraderie than any one person can handle. The appreciation and kindness of the staff was overwhelming but most importantly the time that was spent with brothers from other mothers was healing, both mentally and spiritually, and was nothing short of priceless.

J. Poff, US Army

This is my third WWIA event and every event I have been to I thought could not be better than the last, but every event gets better and better. I have always noticed with WWIA events that the true healing comes from the camaraderie, the brotherhood from the guests, Hosts, Associates and the outdoors. I am so grateful to be a part of this organization. On every event I have made lifelong friends, brothers, outdoor skills, and amazing memories. Keep doing what you are doing because it is truly the best form of healing. I would like to thank Matt, Josh, everyone from Gravel Spring Lodge and the WWIA for an unforgettable time. Once again, thank you for being a part of this amazing journey in my life.

I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to attend this awesome experience. To Matt, it was amazing to see you again. 2022 Eagle River Muskie Chal-Lunge

I can’t find all the words to describe this trip, the camaraderie between the Guides and Warriors and all the staff, my hat comes off for you. Such wonderful gift baskets and bags, sweatshirts, pullovers, t-shirts, caps, fishing poles and reels, but most of all is the memories I will have for the rest of my life. I have a grandson graduating basic training from the Army, another just graduated from the Air Force and a granddaughter who goes in the army next year. I know they will make friends in the service that will last a lifetime and that they will be safe, but if something happens to them that this organization would still be there to take care of them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

E. Ball Jr, US Army, Vietnam

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be included in this amazing event. A ranger brother’s (Mark Price, KIA) mom (Diane Price) came to our banquet, and I became overcome with emotion. Knowing how fortunate I was to make it home to see my parents. Words cannot describe the gratitude for what this WWIA Muskie trip meant to me! Thank you to all the guides and sponsors and to Mrs. Price for attending the VFW banquet. RLTW.

W. Dunham, US Army

I am very grateful for such an awesome opportunity. My wife and I have been on a lot of hunting and fishing trips, but this by far has been the best. From the camaraderie to the welcoming of everyone involved. The food and lodging were exceptional. I would like to put a special thanks out to all of the guides, they were awesome and so patient. To the staff that put this on, thank you and thank you WWIA.

T. Shaw, US Army

Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. Todd and I had such a wonderful experience. Thank you so much to everyone involved, especially the guides. Bill was so knowledgeable and helpful and patient. I learned from the Muskie master. Thank you WWIA!

It has been an honor to spend time with this community. They came together to put on a world class event here in Eagle River! I learned so much about fishing from my guide, Louie, that I can take with me. It has been a very touching experience to see so many people that just wanted to spend time with us. Their generosity was more than I can describe. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I will be leaving here with a refreshed mindset and will never forget the wonderful people here at Eagle River. Thank you!

C. Ritchie, US Navy

It is very hard to express the gratitude (honor) I feel for the invite/experience to the WWIA. Why? Being a Vietnam Veteran, wounded in battle and coming home to insults from our fellow Americans was very depressing. Since 2000, thirty-five years after serving our country, it is truly heartwarming to have been part of this event. It was not the fishing perse but the camaraderie with the other veterans and the guides as well as the hospitality of the Eagle River, WI community that will make this event memorable for me! Thank you does not say enough, but it seems that it truly sums up my feelings. Carry on with your mission, you have earned my respect.

This was a great weekend. I met some great people, and some really good vets. My guide was over the top, my new best friend. I learned a lot of new things on the water and had the best time I have had in a long time. Thanks so much.

Let me tell you, this was an awesome weekend. Andy Hendrickson is an awesome fishing coach. We never had a dull moment in our boat. I loved every minute of it. I will definitely be back.

D. Kaczmarek, US Army

What an incredible event! It started with the people and local community. The people of Eagle River are the nicest, most down to earth people. The warm welcome and generosity was humbling and heart touching. The Warriors immediately bonded with the exception of one that kept to himself the first day. However, by the second day, Wisconsin’s Northwoods atmosphere, Esprit De Corps and mutual adrenaline of hunting Muskie had this Warrior engaged, enjoying life and smiling/laughing. Even starting on a high the event just kept getting better and better as it went on. Warriors were setting records for catching Muskie at 14 and 3 nice Pike. The event culminated with the community, Hosts, boat captains and Warriors to include a Gold Star Mother added into our circle/tribe. A local mother (her son served with Hero, Bill Dunham during Operation Just Cause and Panama) was able to spend time with us at the banquet. Being able to honor this woman’s sacrifice was incredibly emotional for everyone. The time spent with my brothers and sisters and this incredible community gave me memories, strength, hope and the ability to breathe and relax. What an incredible program!

I am so honored to be given the opportunity since 2010 to Host couples from WWIA. I thank the Warriors for their service, and I thank the wives for the sacrifices they have made through the years, may God bless each of them.

M. Reisdorf, Event Host

Thank you for the opportunity to get to know you and for having me and my wife. This weekend has been amazing. From getting to know all the people involved to hearing the great stories. You are truly an inspiration. I can only imagine how great your husband was. Hearing his stories from loving friends and family is truly a glimpse into the life of a great man. Jaime and I would like to thank you, Milt, Rick, Sean, Christine, the two dog handlers, Scott and Hudson’s Dad, Aldo and the new puppy, and all the volunteers that made this awesome weekend with WWIA happen. Ms. Lou, you are an amazing person. We enjoyed everything this weekend. We enjoyed going to lunch with you, the hunting, the spa, and the community dinner. We really enjoyed your property; it is very beautiful. We really enjoyed meeting the other couples, other Purple Heart recipients and talking to them, listening to their stories, learning about where they are from. I have never upland bird hunted before and it was an amazing experience. Jaime really enjoyed the spa.

We have had such a relaxed and wonderful weekend. You and your crew make everything feel like home. From the moment we met you at the airport, the beautiful smile and big hugs, we knew we were amongst friends. The bird hunt was enjoyable and fun despite the rain. Watching the dogs work was Jason’s favorite part of the day. (You know he made me do all the writing here). Watching him blend with the others who understand and communicate the same as he does, was beautiful. Seeing him have peace and enjoy himself was great. The food was awesome. Meeting other couples, families and friends who could relate to the struggles was so important to us. You have truly outdone yourself. The winery tours, tastings and the spa were absolutely wonderful. Having Saturday night to fellowship was a moving experience. All the gifts of appreciation were heartwarming and made these guys feel like they truly mattered. Thank you for including the wives. It is a daily battle and knowing that others face the same, makes it easier. I feel sure that God has a special place in heaven for you and I know your husband is smiling down at you for all you are doing. We hope to see you again soon. Again, thank you to all your crew and you for all of your kindness and hard work.

2022 Camp Hackett A

The WWIA has given me a new reason to serve. After 20 years, I have lost my way. I fight, train, sweat and bleed for my brothers left and right of me. But this feeling here has reminded me that we fight for these great Americans. The tribe here is one that all others should emulate. We hunt to feed each other, by saying that I mean that we are feeding our hearts, minds, and souls, mine were empty. These men and women who support WWIA are by far the tribe in which we all seek to be a part of and the reason we serve. Because of this, I will finish my next ten years more lethal than the last. You WWIA make America stronger, my heart and soul are full again and there are no words to say or write to tell you my thanks.

WWIA gave me an experience like I have never had and will never forget. The support from Corrina, John and Jake was unbelievable from the start. 2022 South Dakota Archery Mule Deer

If I had to use one word to describe the event, I’d go with “epic”. I’m wind burnt, full of cactus needles and sore from miles of hiking and I honestly feel amazing and would do it all over again. That style of hunting is a new obsession for me without a doubt. Thank you again for letting me be a part of something so amazing.

This is my first-time hunting in 6 years. It was a well needed adventure. This hunt was amazing and so was everyone involved. From our Host and his family and guides to everyone involved. I couldn’t ask for a greater group of people. Brian was a very knowledgeable guide. I tagged out the very first day. This is the most fun I have had in a long time.

T. Gunderson, US Army

I don’t even know where to begin. From the moment I met the guides I felt like I was being welcomed by old friends. These guys and girls are great at what they do. We were provided comedy relief, outstanding meals, and knowledge on field tactics while hunting. The local farmer sand surrounding community provided us with a great experience that I will cherish. Thank you WWIA for bringing us together and your continued service to the Purple Heart community.

J. LaMere, US Army

This trip was amazing. Everyone was so great to us, from the farmers all the way to the local American Legion. It was my first time ever judging a rib cook-off. The ribs and other food were amazing. We never went hungry and always had extra for a snack. The guides and volunteers have been amazing. They are all very knowledgeable and the best people to be around. I would recommend this hunt to anyone that is a serious archer. Be sure you pack accordingly and that you can physically handle the terrain. Thank you again.

2022 South Dakota Pheasant Hunt and Fishing Event

This trip completely exceeded all expectations I had. With it being such a small group of Warriors, we were really able to develop a deep connection that will last beyond the end of the trip. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity.

I can’t thank you guys and gals enough. This was my second time out here at GCL and it was even better than the first time. The thing I miss most from my time on active duty is the interactions with likeminded individuals, the jokes, the talks and the natural mentoring process that occurs in the military, it is all facilitated so well here. We are serious and safe but quick to laugh and learn. The talks around the fire and over dinner are always inciteful and thought provoking. I’m leaving on a jet plane and don’t know when I’ll be back again but I’m eternally grateful for the time I spent here.

2022 Bayfield Cast & Blast

This is the second opportunity I have had to go on a hunt with Jeremy. He is a great friend to have and an even better hunting partner. I truly enjoy being able to spend time with him while doing something we are both very passionate about. I can only hope to be able to go on more hunting adventures with him in the future. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude that I have for not only him but our wonderful Hosts, Chris and Brenda and Keith and Jimmy, the owners of the cabin we stayed in. This was such an amazing trip; I have met even more Wounded Warriors that I can now call my friends. Thank you to everyone in this wonderful foundation and for all that you do to support people like me.

Amazing trip, the way the community comes together to support this event is very welcoming and really neat to witness. The food was great, the guides were awesome. This is the first time I have really opened up around other vets since I have been out of the service. This event is so much more than a hunting trip. I really connected with other vets, which does not happen for me. The cabin atmosphere and Hosts really enabled that.

2022 Michigan Patriots Duck and Goose Hunt

This event was incredible from the beginning. Our Host Brock and Co-Host Josh had everything planned perfectly. Brock was always entertaining and there to talk to and engage with. He put his heart into this event. Josh always made sure we were all taken care of and were always full. Huge thanks to the Conservation Club for letting us shoot some clays to get ready for the days coming. Matt Frank had an awesome donation of a Mossberg shotgun for us veterans, he also built a blind he could take us hunting in with Brian, Tyler, and Hoot. Brian was funny, he also had some hand carved decoys for us to learn how to paint. I am not good at painting, but he was a good teacher. The Segur boys pulled through with two heavy hauls of geese. Those brothers know the hunting game. I’m just glad I could be a part of it.

This trip has been such a huge blessing from the amazing guides to the beautiful scenery, this hunt has been perfect. Everyone involved in the hunt spared no expense in regard to making sure all of us were well taken care of, were comfortable, and were going to experience waterfowl hunting at it’s best. All of the guides were extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Every one of them were kind and patient with us. I am thankful to have been invited on this trip and can’t wait to take what I learned and apply it to my own hunting. Thanks Matt and WWIA!

First and foremost, the Hosts, guides and donors are the most generous people I have ever met. They went above and beyond on every aspect this past weekend. I have never felt such camaraderie and appreciation in my life. Since Covid, I haven’t really been able to hang out with like-minded people. It was an honor to get to know each and every person from this past week. I feel re-energized and ready to head back to the real world. For that I am beyond thankful.

2022 Camp Hackett B

I have been truly honored and humbled by this experience in the Northwoods area of Wisconsin. I’d like to thank the WWIA representatives, supporters, and the special volunteers of the Foundation. Their effortless generosity, hospitality, and appreciation shown towards me and other Purple Heart Heroes has been an astonishing testament that our service and sacrifices for this country doesn’t go unnoticed. I commend John McDaniel and Arthur Kandarian for your dedication and commitment towards making this an unforgettable experience, I’ve learned several lessons from their shared experiences in life after the military. Those conversations varied from family values, leadership styles, and the best darn tough socks and bamboo long johns. This experience has inspired me in ways that have been unimaginable, and I look forward to reaching out to other Purple Heart Heroes to hopefully give them the opportunity to have this once in a lifetime experience! This trip has also compelled me to seek assistance in dealing with my PTSD and depression, this has been more than a top-notch outdoor experience! I would like to thank everyone who aided in making this an amazing past 4 days.

D. Croker, US Army

First and most importantly I would like to start by saying thank you to all those that made these last few days a reality. Every person that I encountered, hunted alongside with and hung out with this weekend were just phenomenal.

When I received the unsuspecting call from Ms. Hart asking if I was able to participate in this event, it couldn’t have come at a more ideal time. I was literally at the point of tracer burn out with work. The less than pleasant side of me was predominantly being seen rather than who I truly want to be. And when I am like that, it’s not easy for me not to throw barriers up when meeting new people. Yet through all the interaction these few days, not once did I feel anything but fellowship and camaraderie from those that I’ve never met.

A lot of activity and events were packed into a short window. While for some that may seem chaotic or excessively unnecessary, I found it to be just right. It helped me to focus and engage on people and events and not work or issues surrounding work. It gave my mind and body a chance to really get unfrazzled and find a bit of much needed calm.

The food and living conditions were top-notch. What this organization is doing for guys and gals like me and how the community it’s in surrounds it and helps it to flourish is impressive. With what’s happened to us and it not being something we ever sought out or desired. It’s difficult to put into words how appreciative we are for the treatment we received this week. The handshakes, smiles, jokes, and friendships will last long after our scent has left the camp. Again, thank you and hope to have an opportunity to reconnect again with those I met on this trip sometime again soon.

2022 New Hampshire Bear and Bass

This was an awesome experience. It was amazing to get to know the guys, Asa, Tim, Roy, John and all of the rest. The food was delicious, and I was never hungry. I want to thank Sandy for the amazing whoopie pies ( I ate like 13 of them). It was a real surprise and a treat to get to eat lobster and steak. I ate way too much and couldn’t be happier. Hanging out, talking through some tough stuff and processing it while away from everything and out in the beautiful woods free from pressure was very healing and restorative. I’ve never hunted before and loved it. They did a great job making sure I was prepared and ready. I didn’t get a bear but that is okay because I got so much more instead. The experience was once in a lifetime, and I will cherish it always. I made good friends with great guys. Thank you for everything and I am hooked on hunting now.

2022 North Dakota Pheasant Hunt

Words can never express my gratitude for this opportunity. The people of North Dakota are the most gracious and kind people I have ever met. The hospitality here has been amazing. No one has ever treated me so nicely for my service. It seriously makes me want to cry. This hunt was awesome. I am an avid pheasant hunter and have never dreamed of a hunt this good. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, this trip makes it all worthwhile.

I have never hunted pheasants in North Dakota AND THIS WAS TRULY A MIND BLOWING EXPEREINCE. From the escort into town, the food, all the guides and their dogs and just the welcome and generosity of everyone in town and the surrounding area. Roy, Bruce and the Schreiner family were warm and made me feel at home as soon as I got onto the bus. The hunting was top notch and although I have hunted pheasants a few times, the volunteers were quick to answer any questions I had. It was hard work, no doubt, but it made me appreciate the birds we got even more. I won’t forget this trip or the volunteers or the people I have made new friendships with. Thanks for everything!

I was a short notice participant on this event. Corrina called me on Monday, and I was at the rally point in Minot on Wednesday, just short of a 700 mile drive with my buddy Milo. Was it worth it? Hells ya! The people of the Garrison community are very special, warm, caring folks. My fondest memories will be the people I have met and the new friends I have made. Pheasant hunting was insane! 59 birds on the first day! Thank you.

This trip has been by far the most memorable Purple Heart event that I have ever been a part of. I am huge on building and keeping great relationships. From this trip I have added a priceless group of friends that I truly love, and I will always cherish this trip. Even though I missed my deer, the memory will never leave my mind. I’d love to come back and take another whack at one. The hospitality and accommodations were second to none. To be able to check out from work and life for a few days was amazing. What you’ve done for veterans is so needed and truly appreciated. To the community and most of all to the team, thank you for the trip of a lifetime.

I had an absolutely great time at DoubleCreek. Met some amazing Heroes and to hear their stories and connect with each of them was helpful to me. Dennis and Shelly are fantastic Hosts and may never know the impact they have had on the lives of so many of us. I was overwhelmed with the number of volunteers that came to guide and host the event. Even learned about others in the surrounding community who have given food and gifts to support the hunt and encourage the volunteers. Thank you for all that you do.

I had a blast being able to meet everyone and make new friendships. It is always nice to be able to talk with likeminded people. 2022 Western Pennsylvania Archery Deer

On my way to PA, I missed my connecting flight from Seattle. If it wasn’t for Corrina and Greg, I wouldn’t have made it in time to experiences this amazing trip. I was fortunate to take a doe and a beautiful 4-point buck (8 point to non-westerners). The deer I was able to harvest were just the cherry on top of this trip. From the initial notification, everything was seamless with the exception of missing my connecting flight, which was totally my fault. Greg and Corrina were instrumental with providing a packing list and travel details with plenty of time to assemble my gear, get what was lacking and coordinating with my employer for time off. The Host, Dan and his family are some of the most amazing people I have met. Opening their property and home to complete strangers says more about their character and respect for service members than I could possibly describe. The food and accommodations were that of a 5-star resort. The fellow purple heart recipients I had the privilege of getting to know and share this one-of-a-kind experience with are men I will keep in contact with for may years to come and are more than welcome at my home in Montana anytime. Thank you WWIA and the Bevevino family for an experience I will be talking about for years and will remember for the rest of my life. I also can’t thank my hunting guide, Scott Crownover enough for taking time out of his life and his hunting season to take me out and ensure I had a great time and giving me the best possibility to get a deer. I look forward to repaying his sacrifice for me with fishing trips in Montana anytime and as frequent as he likes. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen, it truly has put a new and much needed breath of life into my soul.

This happens to be my second trip here and it is amazing. Everything from the land, guides and deer. Enough cannot be said about the Hosts, Dan, Frank and Susan, they are an amazing family willing to go above and beyond for the Warriors. Although I haven’t harvested a deer, I still have one more morning, so I am hopeful. They provide you with every opportunity they are able to control. I cannot thank the guides enough for taking the time out of their lives to come out here and lend their land and their knowledge to help. Every time I come out here it is a reset, a much-needed break, a time to step back and relax. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and the breath of fresh air.

I had a great time. This is my second trip with WWIA, and I appreciated every minute of it. I struggle with my PTSD every day, but after spending time with all the guides and other veterans, I came home in a much better place mentally. My family loves that WWIA has invited me again because they too can see a difference in me. I appreciate everyone here, Dan, Todd, Frank and every guide here is amazing, and they truly care about us. You can feel everyone’s appreciation for our service and after a few rough deployments and a long road of recovery, I could not thank those men and women and WWIA enough. I want to thank Susan for cooking for us all weekend, it was delicious. Also, to the volunteers who stopped by to spend time with us and brought us dinner, thank you. I can’t forget Scott and Orry for the gifts and the ride from the airport. I am very appreciative to everyone this weekend; this was an amazing experience. I hope to stay in contact with everyone. To my fellow vets, I love all of you, stay strong and remember you always have a friend in me that is willing to listen and help navigate this crazy life. Dan, thank you so much for allowing me to come and hunt with you and your family. You have beautiful property, and I am appreciative of all you do for me and my fellow brothers and sisters. Greg, you are amazing, thank you for Hosting us and making sure we were all taken care of. Jeff and Todd, stay in touch. I appreciate our conversations and the bond we formed on this hunt. Thank you for having my back gentlemen. If you ever need anything let me know and I will be there. Thank you WWIA.

What can I say, the event was amazing from the awesome Warriors, the great guides and the Host, Dan. What a truly amazing event. Prior to the event I was a little down thinking my hunting season was over, but the event gave me something to look forward to and helped me recover faster so I could attend. The guides made every hunt great by taking us to the best spots and calling in deer. The Warriors were amazing, getting to sit and talk with each one about hunting and deployment stories was awesome. Hosts, Dan, Susan and their son, Frankie made everything truly memorable. From the lodging, food, and hunt areas, they did a fantastic job and made us all feel at home and as family. I left the event refreshed with my mind being reset.

2022 Arkansas Buck Hunt

I don’t normally participate in wounded warrior retreats as I feel like I have come such a long way since my injury and live such a normal life, so I don’t really identify as a “wounded warrior”. I’m a normal dad now and spend most of my time on my kids. When Corrina called and offered me this opportunity, I hesitated but thought what the heck, might be fun! The minute I arrives and met Mr. French and his friends and family; I knew it was going to be a once-in -a lifetime trip. The French family and friends made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived until I left. The first night was spent gorging on some of the best fried chicken and fried green tomatoes (my first time tasting those). Mr. French introduced his son and friends and gave us a quick rundown of what to expect in the coming days. The following day we woke early and headed out to our hunting stands. Having never still hunted I was surprised at how fun and exciting it was catching a glimpse of my first whitetail deer. I ultimately let him walk, but he wasn’t so lucky on day 2 when I dropped him from just shy of 300 yards. The rest of the trip was about the same as each warrior found success. Evenings were spent enjoying incredible home-cooked meals and enjoying each other’s fellowship. This trip will long be remembered by me, and I am thankful I will be reminded of the amazing people I met every time I look at my new 8-point whitetail shoulder mount. To William, Will and Lance, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope to share the memories I made with you all in the future.

I cannot say thank you enough to the French family, Lance, all the volunteers and WWIA. The last four days have been great! Everything from the fellowship, the food, and the hunt were top notch. I would not change a thing. Watching Mr. French and his son Will reminds me of when I was a teen with my father. It brought back such great memories. William, Lance and Will you three were great and worked your butt’s off for us. To many times people think it is just about killing an animal, but I’s not. It is about the fellowship, relaxing, resetting and having quiet time in the woods to reflect and think. I was able to do that here. On the last evening of the hunt, I sent my wife a text that said “well, it’s not looking to promising for me on the hunt, only about 30 minutes of light left”, she replied “that’s okay, you can’t win them all, it’s called hunting not killing”. 3 minutes later, I shot a buck. Thank you again for hosting such a great event. The last thing I will say that really stood out to me was that no one tried to pity any of the warriors, I truly appreciate that!

2022 MO-KAN Ducks and Bucks

I’m still trying to comprehend this whole weekend/experience. It is so hard to imagine that there are so many kind people that willingly open their doors and homes to guys like us. It felt like a family gathering from the moment we arrived. No one passed judgment, cared about what we drove, what we were wearing or how well-spoken we were. The only concern was how can we help and what do you need to be comfortable? This trip was life changing and I cannot express how thankful I am. Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover how grateful I am for this experience and if Rodney tells you anything different, it was the cold wind or someone cutting onions, I was not crying!

Unbelievable week! Thank you all for opening your doors for all of us! It has been a week I will never forget. I will be eternally grateful. Again, thanks for your hospitality and your patriotism.

There was a point in my life, not too terribly long ago that I questioned and doubted that the lord existed. I have had a few things happen in my life, as you might imagine to cause that. I had a couple buddies; veterans also introduced me to hunting. That was the first step for my faith being re-born. This trip, experience, generosity, humbling, elation, the amount of joy that I feel from the acceptance of me, just wow! I have had a most amazing experience with the Napier family and the WWIA family. I was blessed to meet great Americans, that care and walk the walk. I pray for the continued success and legacy of the MoKan events. You provide more than you ever know, and it is felt.

Thank you so much for some world-class hunting. There are so many people that helped make this event run smoothly. Thank you so much for the opportunity for world-class buck, doe and duck hunting.

This was my second time attending this event. I was here on the first event in 2010 and the second was just as special as the first. I struggle to put into words how much this means to me. The camaraderie and appreciation shown for all of the Warriors is so very much appreciated. I will always remember all of you and may God bless you all for your time spent showing us your love and support.

2022 Great Creek Deer Hunt

Learning how to hunt in Brunswick County was a big part of my childhood. Hunting with y’all this weekend has brought back a lot of good memories of that. I promise y’all are doing God’s work with this event. I am so proud to know that there are some boys in Brunswick that are willing to open their doors to veterans. I appreciate y’all and look forward to coming back and spending time with y’all.

Watching the dogs, enjoying the excitement, best hunt ever! My life is changed for the better. This is a hunt for the experienced and novice hunter. Thank you all for this opportunity. This group of Warriors and civilians was amazing.

2022 Naples VFW Big Buck Hunt

What an amazing hunt! I have never been to New York and the drive in was so beautiful. Upon arriving the view from Rick’s place was nothing short of amazing. Every single person we met was very arms open. The last few days have been absolutely incredible. I really needed these last 4 days to reset from my life back home. The buck harvest was the final touch to an amazing trip. Thank you to WWIA for this great experience. What you all do for veterans is 100% appreciated. Once again, thank you for this incredible opportunity.

Thanks for giving me the chance to get back to neutral. I needed a reset and what an amazing way. I don’t get out much and talk with people. Being with people who understand and have gone through the same experiences makes it easy. Thank you WWIA, Rick, Derek and every person who makes this possible.

2022 DoubleCreek Tennessee Rifle Deer Hunt

Corrina and Team,
Wow!!!! Thank you so much that was seriously a world class experience. I had an absolutely fantastic time and my memories from this event will be cherished forever. The Hosts Dennis and Shelley were so amazing, and they are extremely special. I want to thank the guides too and those that volunteered from the local community, they were a riot, and I am happy to have met them and call them my friends now. Thank you so much for all you do! I got to take my very first deer and I wouldn’t have wanted to do it anywhere else.

S. Quarles, US Army

I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for being allowed to participate in this event. Dennis and Shelley went above and beyond to make us all feel at home, welcome and safe. I am an unexperienced hunter having never taken a large game animal. Well, I was. I shot my first deer. I would never have expected to have something like this event be my first. I think as veterans, warriors in general we all thirst for the friendships and family we created in the military. This event fulfills that thirst. I love that I have extended my family here. The amount of work, sacrifice and caring that goes into this from the Hosts, Guides and coordinators is humbling to say the least. Thank you to everyone that helped ensure this was the most incredible event I have ever attended.

From the time I met Dennis at the airport, I knew I was in for a great weekend. After meeting the other Warriors, I knew it was going to be fun. Although I was sick, I had a great time with everyone. The purpose of this weekend was to be around like-minded Warriors and to hopefully harvest some deer. The deer were scarce, but the camaraderie was plentiful. The hospitality of Dennis and Shelley was beyond expectations, and they are some of the most caring people I’ve ever met. Ms. Shelley took time to care for me when I was sick and was truly concerned with my well-being. This event was spectacular, and the Guides were very knowledgeable. I could not have asked for better people to be associated with. Frenchy was a great liaison (trip leader) and all-around great guy. I am honored that I was allowed to participate in this event.

Let me start by saying thank you for the opportunity to participate in this eventful hunt. My hats off to everyone, event hosts, support personnel and guides for their unselfish sacrifice, attention to detail and professionalism. I’m so proud to be a member of this WWIA organization. Thank you for what you do and represent. Keep up the good work you are doing. You are making a difference in the lives of those you have come in contact with.

Jon French was the key. He did a great job. Thank you to WWIA for choosing him. The guy with the same background and same disabilities as we have, so he has the ability to communicate with us wounded warriors and make sure all of us feel welcome. Not only that, but he was also close enough to make sure we were all safe. I used to have panic attacks every two days at least. Because of him I did not have a panic attack and I still feel good. I was not shy to tell him what I felt today after I lost my chance to shoot, and he helped me to feel good. Thank you, Jon, and thank you Wounded Warriors in Action.

It’s hard to put on paper how much of an incredible time all of us Warriors had here at the DoubleCreek Ranch with Shelley, Dennis, Garrick, Jason, Reggie and everyone else. The hospitality and camaraderie were amazing. Hunting in the hills of Tennessee was relaxing to the core. Absolutely could not ask for a better group of people to share a camp with or a better setting. I can’t thank enough, Shelley, Dennis and all of the volunteers and people who made incredible food for us, it was phenomenal. Thank you, Corrina, and LTC John McDaniel and WWIA for the sensational time and the ability to breathe, regroup, reset and bond with our brothers and some 100% pure class Americans.
